🌱 March – May: Spring is ideal for exploring countryside and cities, with blooming landscapes and mild weather. Tourist sites are less crowded.

☀️ June – August: Summer is warm to hot, especially in Bucharest and the south. It’s great for hiking, beach trips to the Black Sea, and attending festivals. Expect more tourists at major attractions.

Getting around Romania is manageable, though travel times can be long:

🚌 Buses and Minibuses: Widely available and affordable, especially for routes between smaller towns or rural areas. Schedules can vary, and tickets are often bought directly from drivers.

🚂 Trains: Romania has an extensive rail network. While not always the fastest, trains are scenic and a good way to reach major cities and tourist destinations. CFR is the national operator, and tickets can be booked online.

🚗 Car Rental: Renting a car is ideal for exploring Transylvania, Maramureș, and rural regions. Roads range from excellent highways to winding mountain passes. Traffic drives on the right-hand side, and an IDP is recommended if your license is not in Latin script.

Cards are accepted in most urban areas, supermarkets, hotels, and restaurants. In rural areas, cash is still common. Romania uses the Romanian leu (RON), and euros are generally not accepted.

Romania uses two plug types: C and F. They have two grounding holes. Most European plugs work, but check compatibility before you go. Romania operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz frequency.

If needed, you can order an universal travel plug adapter here.

Yes, tipping is common but not mandatory. In restaurants and cafés, a 10% tip is appreciated. It’s also polite to round up taxi fares or leave small tips for service providers.

Tap water is generally safe to drink throughout Romania.
